Instructors from Japan join Chinese Taipei Academy summer training camps
04 August 2016
Japanese instructors contributed to the Chinese Taipei Academy summer training camps in Chiayi. It is the seventh year since Japanese instructors began attending this annual summer camps.
TOSHIMITSU Chiharu, the JFA National Training Centre's Coach, attended the women’s camp from 7 to 13 July, and YAMAGUCHI Hirofumi, Director of Coach Education, held the men’s camp from 19 to 25 July. 90 girls and 75 boys from junior high and high schools across Chinese Taipei as well as their instructors came to participate in the training.
The participants had lectures and attended coaches training course with analysis of international competitions on top of practice during the first part of the camp. Then they held practice sessions in the second part of the training based on the learning from the earlier dates.
The JFA proactively send their licensed coaches with aims to raise the level of Asian football.

YAMAGUCHI Hirofumi, Director of Coach Education
The instructors who participated in this programme are very enthusiastic about ‘learning more’. Improving their coaching skills is essential to nurture good players. I explained with specific examples how to prioritise tasks to work on, when there are many to do. I also introduced many methods through lectures and practice sessions.
After the course, participants mentioned that every year they have different Japanese instructors, and everyone was very consistent in their coaching method. The physical abilities of the players in Chinese Taipei are very high, and they are extremely hungry for scoring goals, which Japanese players should learn from.

I made two proposals to the instructors: ‘find good changes in players and praise’ and ‘create more smiles.’ As Chinese Taipei instructors was not used to ‘give a good account’ to the players, I showed them how with gestures. It was very meaningful that instructors saw the effect from praising the players, whenever they could find some changes.
It was my first experience in coaching abroad which made me a little nervous; however, people in Chinese Taipei were so friendly. I would like to express my appreciation to Ms. Lu, the Assistant Professor of National Taiwan University of Physical Education and Sport, who has supported this camp for a long while, and also to the local staff; thanks to you we could deliver our coaching smoothly. Thank you.

A Chinese Taipei instructor at the men’s camp
I had attended many coaching courses in the past, but this camp surprised me a lot. The first thing was the emphasis on basic concepts. Instructor YAMAGUCHI did not just show us directions but focused on details. The second was the attitude of Japanese instructors. They remain highly motivated despite in the extreme heat. The third that especially surprised me was the content of the training. Although we worked on basic skills, everyone was doing drills and no one had time to rest, which definitely improved the efficiency of sessions. And the last was their careful selection of words, which clearly displayed their high expertise.
They delivered essential points very clearly. Despite good content, you cannot expect many outcomes from that training if you do not deliver essential points. I had a valuable time of leaning during this camp. I sincerely hope this camp will continue for many years to come, so that we can aim to become one of the top four teams in Asia.

Instructor TOSHIMITSU focused very much on details. During practice session, she always showed us the standard level, using easy-to-understand terms for coaching, which was a good example to instruct young players. I hope this camp will continue in the future, and I’d like to bring what I learned back to people who love football. Thanks to Instructor Toshimitsu, Ms. Lu and all the staff, the camp was very well organised.
