Girls transplant rice seedings at JFA Academy Fukushima
29 May 2014
The female players set out rice seeds at JFA Academy Fukushima on 24 May (Saturday).
They struggled early as they were tripped up with the paddy field, but they eventually succeeded in transplanting the seeds cooperating with all the members. Through the experience of putting the rice plants, they got to know the hardships of growing crops by the farmers and the appreciation of being able to have rice everyday, and it wound up being a valuable occasion for them.

MORIYA Miyabi, Fourth-term student
It was my second time to plant the seeds. I think that it really takes efforts to the rice-planting.
Being in the muds, you have to hang in there not to slip and work bending your back. You wouldn't have the rice-planting machines and were doing everything with your hands, and I understand how tough it was first-hand now. It was a good opportunity for us to know how hard it was to grow crops.
CHIBA Nanami, Seventh-term student
Since I had done it last year, I was able to smoothly put the plants straightly. But it's still not something we are used to doing, as I worked for a long time, I got to hurt my lower back. I got to know the importance of the rice and reassure our appreciation for it by putting the plants, and now I would like to have a better appreciation for the meals everyday.
ARAI Miyu, Ninth-term student
Because it was my first rice-planting activity since when I was in elementary school, I was very much looking forward to it. As I was getting in the paddy field, I had to have some courage. And once I got in it, the water was warm and the mud felt uncomfortable. But once we started our rice-planting, putting the plants, I was so into it. It was good for us to go through some activity that we don't usually get to do.
