Match Report
Japan took advantage of their overwhelming skills from the start and dominated possession and the flow of the match. In offence they attempted to break down Guam’s defence by either passing or dribbling depending on each situation. After scoring the first goal at the 8th minute, they kept exhibiting good transition from offence and defence and put aggressive pressure on the ball to pick it up in the opponent’s half for a quick attack, which led to more goals to follow for Japan.
In the second half, all seven bench players were subbed in but they followed the same game plan. The dominant ball possession and aggressive attack even widened the lead.
The match ended up in a lopsided win, but individual plays still need improvements in terms of the quality of each skill and how each player gets involved in a given situation. DPR Korea and China which Japan will later face in the group are expected to be stronger and more aggressive, and how Japan’s finesse matches up against them will certainly be noteworthy.
Comments
YAMASHITA Rina(Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls)
In today’s match against Guam, everyone was trying to put early pressure and followed our game plan in offence, too. Everyone showed her strength, so it was good. I think we slowed down to their pace a little though. We scored a lot of goals, so that was good, too. We had a team meeting in the evening and found new assignments there. We will work on them and I think we can be confident in ourselves when we play against DPR Korea tomorrow.
SHIBAYAMA Fumina(NGU Nagoya FC Ladies)
It was the first match in this China trip today. We played against Guam, won 12-0 and had a very good start. I was trying to make good vertical passes and join our attacks often. I could make some good passes to our forwards. I could join attacks many times. But I want to get better at deciding when to go ahead and join attacks and also the quality of my cross balls. Tomorrow, we will play against a much better team. I will try to check their long balls before they receive.
MIURA Haruka(Urawa Reds Ladies Junior Youth)
Today’s match against Guam was the important first match in this tournament. In that match, we scored a lot and won 12-0. So that gives us confidence, and we can play with higher motivation tomorrow, too.
I could score two goals, and I am feeling confident, now. I will learn from today’s match and play confident again in the tomorrow’s match against DPR Korea.
