Inter-regional Tournament overview – U-14 National Training Centre 2014
14 November 2014
The Japan Football Association is pleased to announce to hold “National Training Centre U-14 2nd-half season Inter-regional Tournament” at J-GREEN Sakai in Osaka from 21 through 24 November.
Overview
The National Training Centre aims to enhance the development of individual players. Its role has been increasingly important as the place where to provide young players with first-class coaching and playing environment, where to offer opportunities for the players to get motivated by interacting with other players and eventually to share the experience with their own team, and where to promote JFA’s vision and objective to coaches.
The National Training Centre implements its activities in two seasons: in the first half holding the training sessions in four different regions including making the Kanto region independent and in the second half organising inter-regional tournaments. This is to provide quality training opportunities to as many players as possible in terms of player development, and at the same time to take a look at as many prospects as possible from scouting standpoint.
Purpose
The purpose of the inter-regional tournament is: to find and nurture talented players for Japanese football development, to offer exchange opportunities among players and coaches nationwide, to improve of players and coaches, and to contribute to the development of the training centre system.

National Training Centre coaches, who are in charge in that particular region, provide assistance in the player selection, yet the regional director is ultimately entrusted with that matter. Therefore, the director in charge is required to select the best possible squad of their region with consideration of regular activities including but not limited to the players’ performance in a single trial.
2. The Number of players from each region, age breakdown and number of goalkeepers are as follows.
U-14 players shall be born on or after 1 January 2000, and U-13 players shall be born on or after 1 January 2001. It is acceptable to have a large number of younger players within the age restrictions.
Player positions do not matter in the selection process, in principal, however, the number of goalkeepers indicated below shall be selected from each age category. Depending on each region’s situation, however, the number can be adjusted with the instruction of their National Training Centre goalkeeper coach.
3. In the first half of the season, each region is allocated with one goalkeeper spot in both U-13 and U-14 categories (Regional Spots), expect for Kanto with two goalkeepers each. Central Japan and Western Japan can call up an additional goalkeeper in addition to the regional spots by consulting with their goal keeper coach. In the second half, additional four U-13 goalkeepers from outside the regional spots are to be selected in accordance with the JFA GK Project.
