Match Report
With two more days left in this activity for the Elite Programme, they emphasized on offensive training menus before the goal using crosses in the morning session. They especially paid attention to how to get in the zone near the goal with crosses from the sides, sharing their image inside the team toward their game in the afternoon.
The team played against Korea for the second time in the afternoon. Strong wind was blowing on the pitch, but they took the upwind territory and got off to a more composed start than in their first game three days before. They had their passes intercepted and gave themselves dangerous situations at times, but tried to move the ball.
In the 14th minute, Japan's MITANI Wakana (Nippon TV Menina) intercepted the ball from the opponents in the mid field of Korea's territories, and she dribbled pas defenders dribbling on her own. She made a shot into the goal over the head of the Korea goalkeeper to give Japan a lead. And 14 minutes later, OKINO Ruseri (Club Fields Linda) dribbled to draw some defenders, and then passed it to KADOWAKI Mai (JFA Academy Fukushima), who ran into a space in the left side. Kadowaki brought it near the box and fired a shot with her right foot. It gave Japan a 2-0 lead and entered halftime as it was.
Japan substituted four players, including a goalkeeper, in the second half, and created some scoring opportunities, but weren't able to add further goals. But they wound up finishing those two games holding the opponents scoreless.
As the conclusion of the Japan-Korea exchange activity, they had a barbecue together for dinner. The players of both teams sat at the same tables and enjoyed the time, promising to see each other in the next stage.
The Elite Programme was to enter the final day of the activity to wrap up the five-day programme.
Coach and Players' Comments
KATO Kenji, Coach
Perhaps because it was the last game we'd play, I felt that our players seemed to have a little jitters from their warmups, but once the game began, they entered the contest in a better way than in their first game. Yet before we began making goal chances, we had an occasion that our defender mistreated a long ball and it led to create a 1-on-1 situation with a forward, but the forward made a mistake and it saved us.
We retrieved our concentration, seized the momentum afterward and created offensive opportunities from collective defence so many times. We scored both the goals in the first half as we captured their defence from our collective plays, and I think our training paid off.
One of our issues from the first game was the quality of our first and control and our offensive plays and we can't say that we have improved on those, but I felt that many of our players played with that in mind. But in terms of connecting our attacking opportunities for goals and taking the ball through battles, we will have to look to improve going forward.
KADOWAKI Mai (JFA Academy Fukushima)
Through this Elite Programme camp, these Korea games were what I remember the most. In the first game, I didn't know how the opponents would be playing at all, so while I was a little tardy, I was overwhelmed by them in physical battles. In the second game, I was conscious of seeing around better and make better judgments. But still I wasn't good enough of seeing around and lost the ball easily,so I would like to correct this as my issue.
Off the field, I was able to exchange with the Korean players a lot and spend fun time. On the field, we communicated well and post the wins against Korea. But as far as myself, I couldn't do well enough and felt that I needed to polish my plays.
