Match Report
While there were a lot of visitors at the training camp site because it was a Saturday, the players who are participating in the Elite Programme had a practice from the morning in the second day of the training camp for the Japan women’s national U-14 selection team on 15 October. They fully practiced for about a couple of hours. They practiced being divided into the offensive and defensive groups while they had some high-intensity menus such as 4-on-4 plus freeman.
The team played against the Korea women’s national U-14 team in the afternoon. Under a favorable weather and playing on a beautiful field, the teams kept stealing the ball against each other in the mid field earlier in the game, and weren’t able to create shooting chances. The game entered halftime with the score at zero all.
In the 11th minute, Japan allowed Korea to attack from the right side. Japan goalkeeper TAKESHITA Kanasa (INAC KOBE LEONESSA U-15) took off when Korea’s CHUN Garam fed a floating pass into the middle, and KIM Eunju kicked it into the unguarded goalmouth to give Korea a lead. Yet five minutes later, SHIMAA Mei (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Junior Youth) ran into a back pass made to the Korea goalkeeper and pushed it into the net to tie the game for Japan. In the 60th, Japan goalkeeper ISHIDA Kokona (Mashiki Renaissance Kumamoto F.C Phoenix) made a nice save of a shot when she became one-on-one with a Korean player, not allowing the opponents to retrieve a lead.
While Korea showed they ran out of the gas, left sideback NOGUCHI Akari (JEF UNITED ICHIHARA CHIBA LADIES U-15), who received a long feed from centreback ABE Ayane (ALBIREX NIIGATA LADIES U-15), launched a cross with her left leg. The Korea goalkeeper touched it, but MOMONO Miyuka (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls) kicked the deflected ball into the net with just eight minutes left in the game for a game-winning goal. Japan edged Korea 2-1.
Coach's and Players' Comments
YODOKAWA Tomoharu (JFA National Training Centre Coach)
For the players of this age group, it’s one of the rare international opportunities. Earlier in the game, it seemed that even those players who had experienced the Chinese trip were confused against the opponents who were trying to come aggressively hitting their bodies to get the ball. They tried to play a possession game to earn a pace, but their passes weren’t accurate slightly and it led them to lose the ball and they weren’t able to get in their own rhythm. But our players played tenaciously against their opponent’s offence, and both teams couldn’t create critical chances and entred halftime.
In the second half, we had good anticipation and preparation to intentionally get the ball from the opponents, which we didn’t do in the first half, and increased the minutes to control the game. In the middle of the game, we gave up goals as we didn’t have enough anticipation and preparation, and we got to experience the fear of allowing the opponents to attack through the niches. But we observed our own players and the opponents, and had our plays more accurately, controlled their offence and had more chances to attack on them.
Furthermore, we moved on to find ways to attack on the weaknesses of the opponents, and understanding our teammates, we managed to come from the behind. Through an international game, which is not a usual contest for us, we can give credit to ourselves as we posted the win, while we left some issues in terms of our techniques and our individual tactics. Based on this experience, we are going to have to capitalize on it going forward.
MOMONO Miyuka (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls)
We practiced in the morning and then played a game against Korea in the afternoon today. I played as a substitute, but in the limited minutes, I came through with my signature dribbling while I left so many issues. One of the things I was able to do was to score a goal capitalizing on a cross that came from the far side. But in terms of the transition between offence and defence and the qualities of my passing and trapping, I still need to get better. I would like to continue what I did well and to improve what I could not do through our practices. In the remaining four days, I would like to do my best to develop both as a person and player.
SHIMADA Mei (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Junior Youth)
My goal for the Korea game was to score a goal to help my team. In the first half, it didn’t work well both as an individual and team. The reason was that we weren’t able to connect passes to start our offence as our passing wasn’t accurate enough. Then we came in the second half as we talked to each other. After that, we connected our passed better and individually, I took some shots. And I scored a goal in the second half, so I’m glad I met my goal I’d set. The Korean player were physically strong and were fast, so it was tough for us to get the ball from them and try to halt their speed. We left many issues, so we would like to make sure we correct them and come up with good results in the remaining two games in this training camp.
ABE Ayane (ALBIREX NIIGATA LADIES U-15)
We played against Korea today. We won 2-1, but saw so many issues through it. I was given a chance to play in it and played as a defensive midfielder first. At the position, I paid attention to get involved in as many offensive plays as possible as I tried to face forward making one-touch passes. Then I moved to a centreback position afterwards. I was ready to put the ball away even when they had high-quality long balls and tried to get behind our defenders.
In the meantime, I wasn't really able to play my defence running alongside players of the opponents, and it led to give our team some dangerous situations. I would like to practice with images to be playing in games starting in tomorrow's practice. As a team, we didn't have enough knack to feel dangers and chances and it led to give up the goal. We also had moments that caused by our simple passing and controlling. In our next Korea game, it's going to be a tougher game than today's, but we would like to improve our issues one by one as the whole team.
