Match Report

Time has been passing by quickly, and the JFA Elite Programme Women’s U-13 squad entered their fifth day of the Korea Republic trip. The morning was spared for another training session, and the second match against U-13 Korea Republic National Women’s Team was held in the afternoon.

The U-13 Japan came out for the match with strong determination to wrap up the trip with one more win. Against the physically superior opponents, Japanese side frequently exhibited what they worked on in the recent training sessions on their way to a 4-0 victory, which concluded their three-match winning streak without conceding a single goal during this trip.

At dinner time, Japanese and Korean players shared the same barbeque tables. Both teams put on entertainment performance and the Japanese squad’s last evening in Korea Republic finished with joy, laughter and most importantly, international friendship.

Coach's Comment

TOSHIMITSU Chiharu (JFA National Training Centre Coach, Kyushu/Catiolla Football Club)
One player mentioned in her self-introduction “three straight clean-sheet wins” as our goal. Thanks to the three training sessions we had since the first day, we were able to achieve the three goals, namely (1) robbing the ball aggressively, (2) keeping the ball and finishing attacks with a shot, and (3) playing accordingly to game situations. Staying and dining altogether helped the relationship get stronger and the communication became more active within the team. That way, we were able to share our game plan better, and all those things helped us win the matches.

But we still have more work to do as well. Those include finishing accuracy, strength on the ball and the quality of passes and ball control while moving. Some of the things that I want these players to remember on their everyday training are (1) obtaining better techniques that are consistent regardless of the opponents’ pressure, (2) always getting prepared to avoid body contacts on their way to goal, and (3) having better anticipation to intercept the ball.

Players' Comments

FUJINO Aoba (NIPPON TV MENINA SERIAS)
Today I was selected as a starter for the second match against Korea Republic. Before I came here to Korea, I didn’t pay much attention to intercepting and robbing the ball in defence. But today I tried to do those aggressively. About intercepting, I was able to take away the ball from the opponents’ fullback and took it to our offence. But in offence, I didn’t go for scoring goals very aggressively, so that’s something I regret now. In my next trip, I will remember this feeling and try to play giving my 120%. I will also try to be more aggressive and score many goals. I want to become the leader of this team by understanding when to change my mentality between “on the pitch” and “off the pitch” mode.

UCHIDA Hikaru (NIPPON TV MENINA)
Today we had a training session in the morning and a match to play in the afternoon. Before I came out for the match, I set my own goal as ‘showing my strength on the pitch’. Early in the match, we had stretches where we were overwhelmed by Korean players’ quickness, but we kept talking to each other and were able to score the opening goal. I had my own scoring chances, but couldn’t capitalise on them. So I want to take that back to my club as my homework. In the second half, I was able to put pressure on the ball early, dribble the ball up with my speed and get involved with the goals we scored. I want to take advantage of this experience and keep working hard once I get back to my club.

MUNAKATA Minami (Vegalta Sendai Ladies Junior Youth)
I participated in this Elite Programme for the first time and I learned many things. Today I got to start for the first time in the match against Korea Republic. I usually have hard time intercepting opponents’ ball, but today I was able to do it and connect it to our offence by paying attention to the distance to the opposing players. But in many occasions, I gave up chasing the ball only after one try, so I think I need to be more persistent by trying twice or three times until I get the ball. I want to keep doing things that I did well today, for example, attempting aggressively to shoot the ball, while correcting those I didn’t do well once I get back to my club. I will improve myself by getting better than who I am today.

NAKAMURA Mio (Tokai University Shizuoka Shoyo Junior High School)
In this trip we had two matches against Korea Republic. I got on the pitch halfway through the second half for both matches and that was disappointing to me. In the second match, I got on the pitch with my clear aim of scoring goals. I tried to show my strengths of ‘defending from the frontline’ and ‘getting into attacking mode near the penalty box’ and relentlessly attack the opponents’ goal. During this six-day trip, I learned the keys to play internationally such as ‘speed’, ‘intensity on the ball’ and ‘quick approach to the ball’. I want to take those back to my club and keep working, while being aware of the speed at the international level. I will continue to improve myself in order to be invited to the next elite programme. I want to be as good a player as anybody even at the international level.
