U-15 Japan Women’s Selection team hold second day of training camp
04 December 2016
The second day of the training camp started under clear skies. In the morning, the team held a session to work on ‘attack and defence against crosses’. The players started with some stepping, heading in pairs, and practicing long-distance balls, followed by training crosses from both sides.
In the afternoon, the team focused on ‘possession’. After a brief warm-up, the players practiced passing and controlling, went through 4-on-4 drills with one free player, and moved to 6-on-6 exercises. They finished with 7v7 small-sided games. Every one stayed vocal during the entire training session, where they gave their best.
In the evening, the players attended a lecture about women’s anatomy and doping. They eagerly asked questions before ending their session for the day.
Coach's Comment
TODOROKI Natsuko (JFA National Training Centre Coach/Cerezo Osaka)
As the themes for the goalkeepers, in this camp we’re working on ‘pursuing good preparation, perfecting basic skills, contributing efficiently to attack and defence, and gaining leadership’ as well as ‘raising quality’. We focused on crosses this morning, going through the importance of understanding situation, prediction and positioning, which are all part of ‘good preparation’. We also practiced punching techniques.
In the afternoon, we did ‘passing and supporting’ and ‘deflecting’. We focused on the quality of support, control, and passes during ‘passing and controlling’ session. We worked on judging whether to catch or punch the ball, and also practiced the skill of punching confidently and widely during the ‘deflecting’ session. The three goalkeepers practiced hard in both sessions. They displayed what they had learned and continued to work on our themes after joining the rest of the out-field players. We’d like to improve the quality even more from tomorrow, while working on something new as well.
In the evening, I believe the players had a productive time, understanding more about women’s anatomy and doping. I hope they learned something for the future.
Players' Comments
OGASAWARA Risa (NIPPON TV MENINA SERIAS)
We practiced crosses in the morning and build-ups in the afternoon. In terms of crosses, we worked on adjusting positioning. I realised the importance of positioning once again, which improved my defending area. During working on build-ups, I learned to deliver messages to my teammates by choosing which foot of theirs to pass to. I also learned to support from a different angle after passing the ball. Although I managed to kick strongly, my timing was not great or a pass didn’t go as I planned. So I’d like to focus on the details of each pass in order to improve the quality. In the remaining two days, I’d like to listen to the staff and learn from my teammates, so that I can raise the level of coaching, passing, and contribution.
OMICHI Kana (NGU NAGOYA FC LADIES YOUTH)
My aim in the U-15 Japan Women’s Selection team this time is to challenge myself without fear of failure. It’s best if I don’t make a mistake, but I will definitely not succeed without challenging myself. So that’s why I decided to challenge in a courageous manner. However, since I felt nervous and I was overwhelmed by the level of the other players, I couldn't display my style enough. I had to keep my wits about me, or else other players could get through me in a second or strike a goal.
After spending two days in this training camp, I found my tasks – raising awareness, while improving the quality of crosses and shots. I’m determined to improve them by practicing back at my club. However, I was really pleased that I succeeded in intercepting or getting through on the side, which are my strengths. I’m having a valuable experience in this camp, learning what I didn’t know on and off the pitch as well as in the lectures. As we’ll play a training game tomorrow, I’d like to challenge myself without fear of failure. I’d like to make the most of the remaining two days in order to learn as much as possible and perform better.
OSAWA Haruka (JEF UNITED ICHIHARA CHIBA LADIES U-15)
We worked on crosses from the sides in the morning. We started with practicing attacking and defending in front of the goal after receiving crosses from the sides, and moved onto playing a game, using mainly crosses. I found it vital to get the timing right between a passer and a receiver. In the afternoon, we focused on keeping possession. We practised passing and controlling during build-ups to initiate attacks. We had a lecture in the evening to learn details about doping and our bodies. I’d like to thinking in greater detail about managing my physical condition.
IPPOSHI Hiroka (Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies Junior Youth)
Today we mainly practised shots and also worked on defence just like yesterday. Generally speaking, I found we could have scored more from our opportunities. Personally, the accuracy of my shots was not great, and I found many areas that need to be improved during today’s session. In the evening, I learned about ‘doping’. Although I didn’t know much about ‘doping’ before, now I understand there are many possible causes for it. I was surprised by the fact that you could take banned substances through supplements or medicines. I’ll have to be careful with them from now on. I’d like to get myself in good condition in preparation for tomorrow’s training match.
