JFA launches website for Japan's bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™
05 September 2019
Since establishing the “Nadeshiko vision” in 2007, Japan Football Association (JFA) has strived to achieve the goals that “make Nadeshiko Japan a top tier team in the world,” and “host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Japan.”
In March 2019, JFA has at last participated in the bidding process to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™. Currently, eight FIFA member associations including Japan, Australia, Brazil, and South Africa, remain as candidates to host the tournament.
Women’s football has evolved in a phenomenal speed and continues to increase its attraction. We strongly believe that Japan can further accelerate the momentum toward 2023 and bring people together beyond their race and gender barriers at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ host country will be determined next May. Together, let’s make our 2023 dream come true.
Message from KUMAGAI Saki
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is the dream stage for anyone who plays football. To host such tournament in Japan is a once in a lifetime chance.
This year, the FIFA Women’s World Cup was hosted in France, a country I have spent several years as a football player. The semi-finals and final were held in Lyon, a city where I have deep connections with. It gave me great motivation and only positive impacts. The tournament brought so much excitement and great reaction to France, such as all matches played by France Women's National Team were sold out and the viewer ratings of the tournament went through the roof. The young generations must have thought, “I want to be like them!” and women’s football in France will certainly pick up more momentum from this tournament.
If the tournament is held in Japan, our supporters can watch us at the stadium and young girls can see us up close to dream of playing on the same pitch one day. The expectations towards the national team will certainly get higher, and as a member of the Nadeshiko Japan, I strongly suppose that we have the responsibility to meet that expectation.
