Match Report

For the second match in their AFC Futsal Championship 2016 in Uzbekistan, Japan Futsal National Team took on Malaysia Futsal National Team, starting at 16:30 local time (20:30 Japan time) on Saturday 13 February.

The first scoring action came three minutes into the match. Japan broke down Malaysia defence with quick passing and player movements and YOSHIKAWA Tomoki (MAGNA GURPEA/Spain) scored the opener. Immediately after that, TAKITA Manabu (PESCADOLA MACHIDA) added the second goal. Japan kept attacking and finished the first half with the safe 10-goal lead.

In the second half, Malaysia created several scoring opportunities, but subbed-in goalkeeper FUJIWARA Jun (BARDRAL URAYASU) showed his presence in front of goal to deny Malaysia’s attempts. While Japanese players, believing in their big win, safely controlled the match, MUROTA Yuki (ESPOLADA HOKKAIDO) tallied the 11th goal for Japan to wrap up the contest. With nine different players scoring the total 11 goals for the team, Japan exhibited the rich talent pool on the deep roster and the overall quality of the team.

Since Qatar lost to Australia 5-2, Japan have already been set to advance out of the group stage. Their third match is against Australia with the top place in the group at stake.

Coach and Players' Comments

Miguel RODRIGO, Coach
In the first half, we didn’t let them do what they wanted with our wonderful defence, and the pace was very good for us. We were able to create many chances by going around their pressing defence. We patiently moved the ball, analysed their defence and controlled the match.

In the second half, we tried to play with the same rhythm, but it was a little difficult. We had a big lead, so my players were able to control the match with firm belief in our win. Although we created many scoring opportunities, we weren’t able to finish many of those.

Tomorrow we will have a good rest, and get ready for the match to determine the top spot of the group. The match against Australia is expected to be a very tough match physically, but we will play with our quality plays to match up against their toughness.

FP #14  NISHITANI Ryosuke (FUGADOR SUMIDA)
We were able to defeat Malaysia 11-1 in this second group stage match. Comparing it with the match against Qatar, we had good sense of urgency and we were able to come out for the match well. As we eliminated their strength, we were able to show ours. I think that’s the reason for this win. I think the match against Australia will be a difficult one, but we will go for it determined, win it and go to the finals tournament.

FP #10  NIBUYA Kazuhiro (VASAGEY OITA)
In today’s match against Malaysia, we scored the opening goal early, and we could control the match with our own pace from start to finish. Malaysia have good speed, so I am very happy that we were able to take care of their counter-attacks and at the same time keep scoring goals altogether. We want to keep enjoying playing and go for the win against Australia.
