Match Report

Japan Futsal National Team, which was participating in the AFC Futsal Championship Uzbekistan 2016, had a first match playoff against Kyrgyz Republic Futsal National Team on 18 February to qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup. If they won, it would have been their 5th time to play in the World Cup. Japanese players kicked off the match with the cheering voices of Japanese supporters who have been in Uzbekistan from the group stage.

However, Japan conceded 2 goals in the 10th minute and in the 13th minute, and ended the 1st half without any Japanese goals.

During the half time, the team’s Coach Miguel RODRIGO encouraged the players: “It was the worst flow of the game in this 1st half. It’s up to you how you accept this fact for the next half; all you need to do is believe in what you have done. We never change our will to win and this is the last chance for us to qualify for the World Cup. If you can get a goal, it will be alright. Calm down and keep your level of play together! ”

Japan kicked off the 2nd half with powerful play to get goals. However, they struggled with Kyrgyz Republic’s level of concentration in defence and their powerful play, Japan conceded another goal in the 24th minute. After the Kyrgyz Republic’s goal, in the 26th minute, Japan’s HENMI Katsutoshi Rafael scored and seemed to get the momentum, but they allow another 2 goals in the 30th and 36th minute. In the 39th minute, Japan’s HOSHI Shota scored a goal trying to catch up, but they conceded another goal in the 40th minute. The match ended, Japan lost the match 2-6.

Due to this very regrettable result, Japan Futsal National Team has missed the chance to go to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.

FP #9  MORIOKA Kaoru (NAGOYA OCEANS)
This was the end of the AFC Futsal Championship. All I am feeling now is bitterness and regret. I wish I could go back to the beginning again if we had any chance. I appreciate the supporters who came here all the way from Japan and everybody who kept supporting us, and therefore I’m feeling very sorry for this shameful result. I know I should say that I will switch my mind to move on to the next step, but now I just need a time to think about what we should do. However, this is not the end of the National Team, so I will consider well to contribute to the future of Japan’s futsal, maximising this bitter experience.

GK #12  FUJIWARA Jun (BARDRAL URAYASU)
This match was important one since we had lost the quarter final yesterday, and we could not qualify for the World Cup. All I am feeling now is the sense of guilty since we have stopped the movement of Japan’s Futsal. At the same time, I just appreciate all the supporters who watched us on TV and came here all the way from Japan. Japan Futsal National Team cannot play in the World Cup this time, but Japan’s futsal is carrying on moving. I will process today’s defeat well and keep playing for Japan’s futsal. Thank you very much for supporting us.

FP #6  OSODO Nobuya (SHRIKER OSAKA)
We lost 2 matches: the quarter final against Vietnam yesterday, and the playoff against Kyrgyz Republic today. That means we could not qualify for the World Cup. I am blaming myself for not being able to make a good result considering how much support we have had. This is all because of our lack of our ability. I keep this bitter experience in my mind to make a good start for the future.
