Match Report
Beach Soccer Japan National Team played last game of European trip on 2 August.
The Japan squad, wearing second uniform, made a calm start in the first period. Following instructions by head coach Marcelo “Don’t commit unnecessary foul”, the advice he kept saying, four field players set up organized defense accordingly.
Started from one goal behind, an accident occurred early in the second period. Goal keeper Ginoza was injured when he tried to save the shoot and hit the goal post on his landing, substitute Terukina stepped in. Then the game was begun to dominate by Hungary again. Hungary’s long-range shoot went into the net after making an irregular bound right in front of the goal keeper. That was a typical beach soccer goal, as it is played in the sand.
To make matters worse, Yamauchi, Field Player, received red card for competing with the other side players to take better position, resulted in one less player for the Japan squad. The Japan squad didn’t give away the goal during two minutes, Akaguma took the ball from Hungary player and fired the shoot for a superb goal, recovering one goal. Two minutes later, Haraguchi dribbled and shoot, Goto rushed to the ball deflected by goal keeper, that was equalizing goal. With two minutes left for the second period, the Japan squad awarded two free kicks in front of the goal. Akaguma and Oda converted the free kicks firmly respectively and turned the game around.
The Japan squad wanted to dominate the game in the third period as in the second period, but one goal was given from PK and was equalized in five minutes to go. The game looked like going into extra time as the first match, Moreira scored go-ahead goal with volley shoot to make it 5-4 just one minute to go. Managing to defend Hungary’s fierce attack, the Japan squad made comeback from the first match.
Comments of Head Coach and Players
Marcelo MENDES, Head Coach
I am proud of my players for winning this match. It wouldn’t have been possible to win if they hadn’t been at the highest level in terms of tactics and physical and mental conditions. I am pleased to see new players like Akaguma and Oba play well. They are the players we found at the clinic in Kumamoto, and these two matches were their first international matches. This shows we are on the right track in recreating the team and finding new and young talents. I would like to thank the JFA for understanding what we do, and I am convinced that if we keep doing what we are doing, our team can be one of the best in the world and we can find even more of new players.
MOREIRA Ozu (Tokyo Lequios BS)
We could play very well in last two matches against Hungary We didn’t make many mistakes and our game plan worked well. It was a total away match, and it seemed referees made many calls in favour of Hungary, but experiencing this kind of matches will do good things for this team. We saw our attitude to battle hard and our will not to quit until the last minute, and it made our trust for each other stronger. This national team started under new coach, and I can see this team is getting better.
GOTO Takasuke (Tokyo Lequios BS)
I had experienced some tough away matches before, but these two matches were two of the toughest in my career. Winning such a match is a great experience both for this team and for myself. During this trip I have found many new things and I think I can fell in love with playing beach soccer even deeper. I just thank all the people who made this trip possible.
