U-16 Japan National Team Thailand Trip report (14 July)
15 July 2014
The training camp in Bangkok, which started on 7 July, will end with the final match tomorrow.
The team will realise that they have an advantage with the experience gained in this camp. They will be used to the traffic from the hotel to the pitch in Bangkok, the changing room at the stadium and the fresh turf, when they arrive at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport for the 2014 AFC U-16 Championship in September.
The players held the last training session in this camp at the Rajamangala National Stadium from 9:30 in the morning.
The turf was damp and soft due to the constant rain the night before. In September they may play on a poorly conditioned pitch against the strongest teams in Asia in the championship as the qualifying round for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The training session ended slightly earlier than planned and the players went back to their hotel, since the pitch, which had become a little rough after the game against the Thai national team, needed to be maintained for the tomorrow’s match against Assumption University.
They paid a visit to Wat Pho after lunch and enjoyed a brief snapshot of the history and the culture of Thailand.
The sensation you gain by seeing the world’s best-known architectural structures and cultural heritage is very important for an individual, let alone for a football player. There were many people from all over the world in the solemn temple with a large golden Buddha statue lying down.
The last training match against Assumption University will kickoff tomorrow.

YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
We had an hour of physical training today, since the third practice match ended in a draw due to the lack of the players’ physical and mental endurance capacity towards the end of the game. Although first their bodies and minds weren’t harmonising at all, they performed better in the end. Sixteen-year-olds can be mentally unsettled, but we proved that ‘one can do anything when one tries consciously focusing on one’s highest goal.’ The team will play their last practice match as though it was the qualifying round for the championship. I expect they will play as a united team.
NAGASAWA Ryosuke(Vissel Kobe U-18)
It was my first time to get called up to this team, and I learned how the other players in my generation would play as a member of the national team. However, I picked up an injury from a careless play, causing the team some trouble. When I recover, I’ll try what I learned here to improve myself.
MATSUOKA Daichi(Cerezo Osaka U-18)
I learned the importance of self-managing while staying in this heat in Thailand. I’d like to improve myself, so that I can perform at my best even in a difficult environment. I’ll apply not only what I learned in my play, but also what I experienced on this trip in the future.
ABE Masashi(Seiryo High School)
I realised again the importance of the core training and the usage of the body through this camp. I think I can reach my personal goal as a member of this team, by practicing with a clear image of what I want to do. I will play with everything I’ve got tomorrow, so that we can go home with a victory.
