Match Report
The match against Assumption College Thonburi wrapped up the training camp in Thailand started on 7th July.
Japan started off vigorously and dominated the match in the first half, but could not convert golden opportunities into an opening goal.
Yasui Takuya finally broke the deadlock in the 32th minute when he kept the ball with poise and touched the back of the net with a strike. Japan finished the first half leading by one.
Although looking to add up the lead early in the second half, Japan gave away a free-kick right in front of the goal in the 49th minute, which Assumption took advantage of to tie the match.
98 Japan continued trying to grab a winner, but could not find it before the match ended with a 1-1 draw.
As time left before the AFC U-16 Championship in September is now less than two months, Japan had a fruitful simulation camp. They look forward to coming back to Bangkok once again after another camp back home in August.

Comment
YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
We kept dominating the match in the first half even with the lead being just one. That was almost what we had as our goal to win a ticket to the World (Championship) with overwhelming strength. But while we could have controlled the match a lot more easily in the second half if we had scored decisive second and third goals, we just couldn’t do it. We couldn’t score because we were indecisive in the box and our final passes weren’t accurate.
In the second half, we could not keep the pace up like the first half, and the match fell into 1-1 tie with the free-kick just four minutes after the start. Players on the pitch could not show any efforts to solve the issues by themselves there, and we didn’t fire any shot. We were way far from dynamic and vigorous football, where players and ball move around.
When final qualifiers turn out to be matches like this, we will be even slower. And those matches will be very close ones where nobody knows who wins. When I think about those facts, this match is nothing but a disappointment.
But it’s worth noting that every seven kicker in the shootout was bold enough to score.
