Match Report
The third match in the Thailand trip was against the U-16 Thailand national team at the Rajamangala National Stadium. The Japan National Team will possibly meet them again at the quarterfinals in the AFC U-16 Championship in September as the qualifying round for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
In the 16th minute, the Thailand national team counter-attacked and their first attempt found the back of the net, building up positive momentum for them. Then after 24 minutes, they scored again to stretch their lead to two goals.
However, Doan Ritsu and Yasui Takuya struck the goal twice in quick succession, levelling the scores 2-2. And then, just one minute after that, Suga Daiki, who ran up front from the centre, reacted calmly to the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the goal. They turned the game around in just three minutes.
The Japan National Team could not keep the one-goal lead and conceded a goal again in the 40th minute, bringing the match back to the beginning.
In the second half, the Japan National Team started to pass the ball rhythmically, finding more space in the middle due to the decrease of Thailand’s movement. After 61 minutes, Doan Ritsu scored again, but in 88th minute they conceded a goal, and ended the game with a draw 4-4.
Tomorrow they will hold a training session in the morning in order to adjust themselves for the final game on 15 July.

YOSHITAKE Hirofumi, Head Coach
The third game in this trip was against the U-16 Thailand national team, who we might play in the first match of the knockout stage at the AFC U-16 Championship. Although we should be proud of scoring four goals, conceding four goals shows we have some problems. Some of the reasons we couldn’t prevent them from scoring were the way we lost the ball and also not being able to defend enough against the opponent counter-attack. We kept possession, but not rhythmically enough. Also we couldn’t use the space in the middle efficiently, and couldn’t go up front even though we passed forward to feet. These are all the issues to be adjusted. I was impressed that they turned around the game from 2-0, but they were lacking a sense of leading the game even though they had a one-goal lead at 3-2 and 4-3.
YASUI Takuya(Vissel Kobe U-18)
Today I played thinking ‘If we lose, that’s the end of this team’. I’m disappointed that we couldn’t win, but at least we didn’t lose, which was the minimum acceptable result. Personally I was pleased that I kept possession and understood how to manage positioning. With a few days before the end of this trip, I’d like to enjoy myself until the end.
SUGIURA Fumiya(Nagoya Grampus U15)
I was really gutted, as we definitely had to win this match, which ended up with a draw. Although we were behind 2-0, we came back to lead 4-3, and then lost our lead. I learned the importance of wrapping up the win when you can. Personally I’ve got several tasks to improve on, including increasing movement for both attacking and defence and finishing the goal at any opportunity.
TSURUTA Kaito(Vissel Kobe U-18)
We drew with the Thailand national team 4-4. Although we scored four goals, we conceded four as well. I learned that we need more communication in the defensive line in order to prevent opportunities for the opponents. At the same time, I discovered my main problems, such as my positioning and movement, including diving. On penalties, I punched the ball, but not enough to send it out of the goal and also dived too soon, which are also issues to be fixed.
