Match Report

The third day of U-16 Japan Women's National Team short-listed squad training camp saw a practice match (four periods of 30 minutes) against Kamimura Gakuen Junior High School (Men).

After just five minutes after the kick-off, Japan initiated an attack. The midfielder NAGANO Fuka passed the ball to the forward MIYAZAWA Hinata in the left side, who kicked it back to Nagano. Although Nagano threaded a through ball forward, no one could react to it. The team could not keep possession against such a swift opponent, and conceded five goals in the 9th, 10th, 20th, 25th, and 30th minutes.

In the second period, the opponent once more struck a goal in the 42nd minute. After 44 minutes, the forward UEKI Riko, who reacted to a cross from the defender MORINAKA Hina in the left side, headed in a shot for their first goal. The team started to pass the ball around. In the 52nd minute, the midfielder ISERI Natsuki received a loose ball from the opponent’s goalkeeper, and took a shot, only for it to go wide to the left.

In the third period, Japan stayed looking for more goals. In the 86th minute, although the forward MIURA Haruka received a pass from the forward ENDO Jun in front of the goal and made a shot, the opponent’s goalkeeper made a superb save.

The match went into the final period at 6-1. After conceding a goal in the 93rd minute, Japan consecutively let the opponent score in the 99th, 101st, 102nd, and 105th minute. They lost to Kamimura Gakuen Junior High School (Men) 11-1.

Coach and Players' Comments

KUSUNOSE Naoki, Coach
Just like yesterday’s game against high school pupils, we played against a team with speed, power, and skill. The players now and then displayed the ability to press from the front line and prevent the opponent’s attack, which we’ve been aiming at during this training camp.

However, the opponent’s speed and power overwhelmed them near the defensive line, letting the opponent score goals. Striking a goal by getting through on the wing must have given the players some confidence. With the limited time prior to the AFC U-16 Women's Championship, we’d like to get ourselves ready as much as possible, improving our problems.

NAGANO Fuka (Urawa Reds Ladies Youth)
We conceded goals from our own mistakes, and also because of not catching up with the opponent’s speed. We could have avoided those losses from our mistakes, if we had stayed vocal and had judged the situation better. It was a shame we couldn’t do so.

However, I’d like to stay positive, as we occasionally did attack on our pace and got through the opponent with passes. We’ll meet similar teams in the AFC U-16 Women's Championship. So, I will play tenaciously until the final whistle.

WAKISAKA Reina (Cerezo Osaka Sakai Ladies)
Although I found a speed and power difference between the junior high school boys and us, some of our plays did work against them, which I’d like to continue. I found what we need to work on by reviewing today’s video. So I’d like to improve those back in my team in preparation for the AFC U-16 Women's Championship.
