Match Report

On the second day of the training camp, U-19 Japan Women's National Team short-listed squad played a training match (four periods of 30 minutes) against Niigata Prefectural Niigata Kohnan High School.

Although the players struggled a little with the speed of the opponents pressure at the beginning of the game, they gradually took the initiative. After 10 minutes, the forward KOBAYASHI Rikako, who ran towards a pass from the defender SHIMIZU Risa, passed the ball back to the goal area, only for it to miss her teammates.

In the 25th minute, the ball was passed from the midfielder SUGITA Hina on the right wing to the midfielder HASEGAWA Yui, and the forward MOMIKI Yuka, who received the ball in the end, struck the opener.

Japan never stopped attacking in the second period. The team fielded three new players and stayed ambitious for goals. However, despite several goal-scoring opportunities, the score stayed the same and the game went into the third period.

In the third period, Japan made significant changes to the team. Eight minutes after conceding a goal in the 70th minute, the midfielder SONODA Mizuki received a pass from the defender MIYAGAWA Asato, and passed the ball to the midfielder ANZAI Yuka, who knocked the ball into the goal. The score became 2-1.

Japan were looking for more goals in the fourth period. Then Sonoda struck a goal in the 92nd minute, and Anzai again in the 111th minute, building a three-goal lead. After the 118th minute, the forward SHIRAKI Akari dribbled through the left wing and slotted the ball into the right-hand corner. Japan won the match 5-1.

Coach and Players' Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Coach
With under a month to go before the AFC U-19 Women's Championship, the team faced this practice match, focusing on the combination in both attack and defence. I’d like to point out that the players played their style, scoring through various combinations, against the power and the speed of the high school boys. We’d like to improve the quality of every single play before the practice match on 31 July.

MIURA Momo (Nippon Sport Science University)
As the high school boys had speed, I had to adjust myself really quickly on the pitch. Personally, I think I could have coordinated better with the defensive line away from the ball, and could have played better one-on-one. So I’d like to focus on those in the practice sessions. I also want to improve the judging skill and the detailed positioning, so that I can play calmly even against male players. I’d like to improve today’s tasks as much as possible during the remaining two days.

ANZAI Yuka (JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies)
I came off the bench in the third period. Although sometimes the player with the ball was pushed to be isolated and we couldn’t give enough support, we managed to fix this and more players contributed to the goals in the fourth period. Personally, I’m glad I could score goals, as I was focusing on shots. Having said that, I made mistakes in passing as well as failing to dribble and hit the ball at the opponent’s foot. I’d like to work on my tasks in the coming training sessions as much as possible.
