Match Report

It was the 4th day of the U-19 Japan Women’s National Team training camp on 31 July. The team had training match sessions against Teikyo Nagaoka High School (three 40 minutes sessions).

Teikyo Nagaoka High School took the control of the match from the beginning. In the 13th minute they stole the ball and broke through the squad team’s defense and made the opening goal.

After 26 minutes, Japan gradually got familiar with the opponent’s speed and forward MOMIKI Yuka passed the ball to midfielder NISHIDA Meika. She broke through the right wing and entered into the centre but didn’t score an equaliser. The first session finished 0-1.

In the 42nd minute of the 2nd session, Japan moved the ball around in the middle from midfielder HASEGAWA Yui to forward KOBAYASHI Rikako and Nishida who was moving up in right wing, got the ball and kept going towards the goal. The shot successfully found the net and that equalised the match.

Japan found good rhythm of offense. In the 71st minute forward SEIKE Kiko and Hasegawa moved the ball to the front and eventually midfielder MIURA Narumi struck the shot to make 2-1. However, Teikyo Nagaoka scored in the 73rd minute and the 2nd session finished 2-2.

Japan changed many players in the 3rd session, expecting to make additional goals, but they lost 2 goals in the 87th and 94th minutes. Japan was still eager to equalise and in the 115th minute midfielder ANZAI Yuka made a pass to Seike who was moving to the front and hit a shot but she was judged offside. Japan lost another goal in the 117th minute and the match ended with Japan’s defeat 2-5.

Coach's Comments

TAKAKURA Asako, Coach
The players were bit messed up in the beginning facing with men’s high school players who are physically stronger, but they gradually responded calmly, getting familiar with them. They could keep playing with patience until the end of the match.

However, the quality of their building-up movement was not good when they switched to offense. It is our issue that they couldn’t move the ball well to in front of the goal. For the AFC U-19 Women's Championship, I expect each player will prepare their condition and improve their abilities as much as possible.
