Female goalkeeper selection camp ended after 3 days of training
11 July 2016
The Girls goalkeeper selection camp which kicked off on 8 July with 28 goalkeepers had its final training day on 10 July. Under sunny and hot weather, the players concentrated on every training session they had on the final day.
These players had applied at this camp. Despite the limited-time schedule, they have grown as a better player through training sessions and educational programmes and by interacting with each other off the pitch. At the end of the day, they encouraged each other to be better players in each of their respective home teams and promised to see each other in the future.
Coach's Comment
TODOROKI Natsuko (JFA National Training Centre Coach/Cerezo Osaka)
This is the selection camp and most players experienced this type of camp for the first time. They looked nervous in the beginning but they became more relaxed through various programmes such as the training sessions and group meetings. Towards the end of the programme, they started to communicate well amongst each other. In these 3 days, the players learned about the importance of good preparation, basic skills, and how to spend time off the pitch. They also became more positive about challenging new things during the camp. Despite the brevity of the camp, I could see significant improvements as goalkeepers.
I expect the players to keep having high motivation to be better players utilising what they have learned in this camp after going back to their respective teams. I would like to express my gratitude for those who supported this selection camp.
Players' Comments
ITO Haruki (Vegalta Sendai Ladies Junior Youth)
The time has passed so quickly but I learned many things. In this camp, we practiced diving and positioning. In the catching training, I paid special attention to secure the ball. In regards to positioning, I made too much space at times by reaching to the one side of the goal post and I need to be more careful. In the last game, I was pleased that I was able to communicate well and play at a high level.
We had only 3 days but it was a had an excellent time supporting each other. I will keep working hard remembering what I have learned here and aspire to be a better goalkeeper. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity given to me.
KAWAHARA Mayu (INAC TAMAGAWA LEONESSA U-18)
This is my first experience to join the goalkeeper’s camp. I was very excited to have specialized training. From the beginning I could communicate well with other players so I had no problem starting the camp. In the meeting, I learned about basic skills and knowledge in goalkeeping. I was also impressed by the passionate attitude of the Coach in these meeting. To satisfy her expectation, I did my best at practices and tried to learn better than others.
In the night of the second day, I submitted my football notebook to our Coach Todoroki where she wrote “practice makes perfect.” This means that it will take a great effort to keep working on my game, but if you continue to work hard, then your perseverance will eventually pay off. This message is for all of us in the camp. Not only the things I learned during the camp were meaningful, but also the things I do with them after the camp are equally or even more important.
After going back to my team, I will continue practicing the same training in the camp. I sincerely appreciate this opportunity and all the training staffs for teaching us in this camp.
KUDO Homare (SAPPORO BONITA U12)
In this camp, I have learned a lot from basic training. Furthermore. I will keep practicing and continue to do my best in my team. Playing with many goalkeepers in this camp was important to me. I will not forget this experience.
KASHIMA Akari (Ohnuma SSS)
I always wanted to join in this camp since I was 7 years old. In order to be invited to the camp, I have worked hard ever since then. I want to be the best goalkeeper and earn everybody’s trust by keeping a clean sheet in games. I have learned a lot from this camp. Especially, I am pleased that my techniques at diving improved significantly. To be re-invited to this camp, I will keep working hard.
