Match Report

With hopes to advance to the final round of the AFC Women's Futsal Championship Thailand 2018 as group leaders, Japan Women's Futsal National Team squared off with China PR Women’s Futsal National Team at Bangkok Arena on Monday 7 May.

Before the match Coach KOGURE Kenichiro spoke to his players, “even though we have secured our spot into the knockout stage, we must not think it is a game we can waste. We must play as if it is the tournament final.”

Japan marked an early goal as AMISHIRO Anna fired a shot from the left side, which evaded the goalkeeper’s hands in the fourth minute. Three minutes later, EGAWA Ryo played a give and go with Amishiro before launching a shot. The shot was once denied by the goalkeeper, but Egawa was there to convert the loose ball. Japan would concede a goal just before the end of the first half from a corner kick, entering halftime with a 2-1 lead.

Despite their efforts to extend the lead, Japan struggled against the physical approach of their opponents. In the 24th minute, China PR scored the equaliser to level the match, but Japan would retake the lead in the 32nd minute when Amishiro scored her second goal of the match. Following NAKAJIMA Shiori’s first goal of the competition, both teams went onto exchange goals, but Japan prevailed at the end with a final score of 6-4 to win out of their group as leaders.

After recording back-to-back hat-tricks, Amishiro was named the most valuable player of the match.

Player's Comments

GK #1 YAMAMOTO Ayaka (SWH Ladies Futsal Club)
Despite taking control of the match, we made it tough on ourselves by committing too many fouls. As a goalkeeper, it is always disappointing to concede a goal in the first half. Although we allowed our opponents to level the match at one point, we managed to retake the lead and never gave the lead to our opponents. Our team showed great intention to win out of the league as leaders, and we played very hard for it. However, we conceded from our own errors when facing set plays and power plays. We have to be more cautious and make the adjustments moving forward. We will continue to work hard so that we can win the remaining three matches and earn the championship.
