The third training session for J.League Division 1 and 2 referees in 2014
18 September 2014
The training sessions for J.League Division 1 and 2 referees were held on Saturday 6 September and Sunday 7 September 2014 at JFA House.
The participants eagerly exchanged their opinions concerning how to improve the accuracy of their decisions during games, using some real-life situations, which happened since August.
As a part of the promotion, ‘JFA Respect Fair Play Days 2014 - for the world without discrimination and violence’, they declared ‘their commitment’ to fight against any form of discrimination or violence.

We used some recent events for our group discussion in the training session.
The following topics were discussed.
-Assess the situation more closely in order to eradicate the simulation
-Improve the accuracy of judging dangerous tackles with the studs up
-Share the judgement criteria for when a definite goal-scoring opportunity is prevented
- React to and prevent acts that delay a game
We also shared how to respond to complaints, control free kicks, and manage conflicts.
Since the communication system has been in use since 19 July, we reconfirmed its necessity in active and effective way, in order to judge more accurately.
TSUKADA Kenta, Class 1 Referee (Gunma)
In the training sessions, we primarily held discussions, using images from actual games. There were many different situations - one judging correctly, another judging wrongly or other situations, in which, although the decision was made correctly, the next action could have been improved. We exchanged our opinions on those matters.
It was a really good opportunity for me to attend the training including the discussion, which always gives me a chance to gather my thoughts and learn new ways to see the situation from the point of views of other referees.
Only one third of the season is left and it is about to get to the best part. Each game is very important to the referees, as each game can impact on the team’s rankings. Even in a difficult situation, we need to judge correctly in order to fulfil our role - ‘protect the players’ safety’ and let the players play at full power. Until the last match of this season, I’d like to keep improving myself even more, bringing what I learned here into games, so that every player can concentrate on their play and the games become more attractive.
