JFA Academy Sakai conducted nutrition lecture

Nutrition lecture was conducted on Mon. 25 August.
The students attended briefing session on balance of meal and supplementary by a National Registered Dietitian with key words of “one soup three main dishes + two side dishes and smile (niko niko): staple food, soup, main dish, side dish, extra side dish + two dishes (dairy products and fruits) and enjoy taking a meal with smiling face”.
In the following group work, the students selected supplementary by themselves and made presentation on why they selected them and what nutrition they can take from them.

Instructor Comment

HASHIMOTO Megumi, National Registered Dietitian
As it was first meal lecture for students in each grade, I talked to them the Academy offers a meal focused on philosophy as well as nutritional balance. In talking about manner of meal, I explained the way to check the meal balance - one soup three dishes + two side dishes, smile and I described training at Academy Sakai and rule of taking supplementary and actually give them a session to choose supporting foods. The participants appealed the supplementary food they selected and really made a good presentation for too hard to believe it was first time for them at CM time.
The aim is to give them skill of checking one’s own meal, making up what is missing and become player to spread the wonderful Japanese food culture when they graduate from the Academy. I look forward to hearing many student saying not just “I know that” but “I actually making it my habit” to reach closer to the philosophy.

Comments of the Academy Students

HISANAGA Mio (2nd class, 2nd grade in Junior High, club: Kusunoki Club Ladies)
I learn at the Nutrition lecture it is important to express gratitude when taking a meal. I cannot take any nutrition without taking a meal. I want to express my gratitude in greeting before and after taking a meal, “Itadakimasu” and “Gochisousama deshita”.
Because I learned what contains in food and what food I should take, I want to take every care as an athlete when taking a meal each time.

YAMAMOTO Tenju (3rd class, 1st grade in Junior High, club: GIFU Joshi FC Phoenix)
As I was diagnosed as anemia at medical check, I want to be much aggressive about taking a meal and giving more consideration for nutritional balance - one soup three dishes + two side dishes and smile. Now that I understand the difference between supplementary and snack, I want to take different approach giving consideration of timing - before and after the training. I would like to give importance to the greeting which is part of meal manner, thanking to those made meal and food materials which were fresh till just before cooking
